About this Place Of Interest

The Changi Museum was created in 1988 to commemorate the lives of the locals and foreign prisoners of war (POWs) who were interned at Changi Prison during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore in 1942 to 1945. Many of these POWs were sent to work on the construction of the Thai-Burma Railway, which eventually led to the deaths of 12, 621 prisoners. The museum houses storyboards that details specific experiences of life before, throughout and after the war, as well as numerous drawings and letters of the prisoners and their families. The adjoining chapel is a replica of the actual chapel built by these POWs.
