About this Place Of Interest

Bang Sai Arts and Craft Centre is located 60km from Bangkok and on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River. The centre which sits on a 5.6-hectare area was set up to help preserve traditional Thai handicrafts skills and was inaugurated in by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit in December 1984 [1]. It is under the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques (SUPPORT) established under the Royal Patronage in July 1976. The centre provides an excellent opportunity for local and foreign tourists to get a peek into how farmers and craftsmen from the four regions - North, North East, Central and South - work and produce arts and crafts products such as fern vien basketry, weaving basketry, hand-woven silk and cotton, silk dyeing, wood carving, furniture-making and cloth-made products, among others [2]. Among the main attractions of this place of interest include "the four-storey applied Thai building with four porches" known as Sala Phra Ming Khwan and the Arts and Crafts Village, which houses 25 Thai Style wooden houses of the North, Northeast, South and Central. Meanwhile, the Arts and Crafts Training Building provides training to farmers from the 29 divisions with the aim of assisting them to find supplementary occupation during the out of farming season. The view of the Chao Phraya River from this side of Thailand is also quite memorable.
